Everything your business does is online these days – from accessing HMRC records, through to submitting payroll and managing social media. This means that businesses across Calderdale, Huddersfield, Bradford and Leeds are increasingly vulnerable to online scams and hacking attempts – and fraudsters are focussing their efforts on easy targets.
To help keep your business and information safe, we’ve got some quick tips below to share with your staff. Sometimes, the easiest and quickest things can be the most effective!
Keep your computer and e-mail password different to all your other passwords. If hackers access your e-mail, they gain access to your business data – and they could reset your other accounts!
Use three random words for your password. Don’t use words that can be guessed (i.e. your pets name), but do choose something you’ll remember! An example could be SunnyMorningDay
Use a password manager (like LastPass or 1Password) to save and remember your account details
Turn on two-factor authentication – meaning you’ll be asked to enter a code that gets sent to your mobile phone when logging in
And finally – keep your devices up-to-date! This is one of the easiest and most important things to do! Hackers look for flaws and vulnerabilities in software – and keeping your systems up-to-date helps prevent cyber-attacks!
